Program Overview
The
South, Southeast and West Asia Outreach Program (SSEWA) at the Center
for Asian Studies at the University of Colorado Boulder (CU), will host
its first STARTALK student program from June 4 to July 6, 2012, in
collaboration with the Anderson Language Technology Center (ALTEC) and
the Department of Asian Languages and Civilizations (ALC). The primary
goal of the program is to provide Hindi/Urdu language learning
experience and encourage development of cross-cultural communication
skills. The program consists of three-weeks of on-site (June 4-22) and
two-weeks of online sessions (June 25 to July 6). Enrollment is limited
to 20 high school students who will be entering grades 9 through 12 in
public and private schools in the Boulder-Denver area in the summer of
2012. Students must be able to commute daily to the on-site portions of
the program. Instructors who specialize in teaching Hindi, CU faculty
experts on South Asia, and other invited guest speakers will provide
the students with training to achieve a novice-high level of fluency in
Hindi. Prior knowledge of Hindi is not required. All major costs
associated with the program are underwritten by STARTALK.

of your high school transcript and a one-page typed essay describing
your interest in learning Hindi and/or Urdu and your expectations from
the program. by postal mail to the SSEWA outreach program.
Applications must be received prior to 5:00 pm on April 27, 2012. Selections are made on a rolling-admission basis during this time, so please apply early!
